Defending the half-empty glass perspective
There are those who see the glass as half-full and those that see it as half-empty.
I am often told that I belong to the latter group.
Whilst I understand my perspective is often derided by many, here is an argument for those that share my views.
To see a glass half-empty, may not be optimistic to some, but in fact it is very opportunistic.
A half-full view on life or situations in life may foster complacency and mediocrity. Why do we need to do any more? The glass is half-full.
However, to see a glass half-empty gives me hope that there is more that can be done.
Only when we have this outlook can we ask questions on what else can be done. What opportunities exist that we can capitalise on to fill it to the brim and then to overflowing?
What more can we put in? How can we become even better?
In business and in sport, we must constantly improve and unless we seek room for improvement (i.e. the glass is still half-empty) can we truly get better every day.
